Filtering results
Periodicals Index Online allows you to filter your results set by Journal, Journal Subject, Date, Frequency of Publication, Journal Editor or Date. You can use the navigators in the Filter by... box to apply these filters:
- Click on the plus (+) icon next to a heading to expand that section, or the minus (-) icon next to a heading to collapse the section. By default a section will expand to display a maximum of 10 entries; if you wish to see more, click the Show All link underneath the list of 10.
- Once you have expanded a section, click on a link to apply that filter to the current results set.
- A message will appear at the top of your new results list indicating that the results are now filtered by your chosen criteria. Click the Remove filter button next to the relevant heading in the Filter by... box to remove it and return to your previous results set.
Sorting results
Search results can be sorted in one of four ways:
- By relevance
- Alphabetically by journal title
- Oldest record first
- Most recent record first
To re-sort your results, use the Sort results drop-down list; click the arrow to the right of the box and choose the relevant option from the list that appears, then click the Sort button.
Change the number of results per page
You can choose whether to display 20, 50 or 100 entries on the Article Search Results page using the Display drop-down list. Click the arrow to the right of the box and choose the relevant option from the list that appears, then click the Go! button. The Article Search results page will change to reflect the option you have chosen.
By default 50 results will display per page.
Adding Citations to your Marked List
Add a citation to your Marked List by checking the checkbox below the citation. The background colour of the result should change and this will show that the citation is now in your Marked List. To remove it, uncheck the checkbox.
To add all of the citations on the page to your Marked List, check the option at the top of the results list to Mark all citations on this page. To remove them, uncheck the checkbox.
For more information, go to the Marked List Help Page.
Obtain the durable url for a citation
You can obtain the durable url for a particular citation by clicking the Durable url for this item link below the citation.
Adding your search to My Archive
Add your search to My Archive by clicking on the Save search terms to My Archive link at the top of the page. If you are logged into My Archive, this will add the search to the Saved Searches section, and will ask you for a name for the search. If you are not logged in, you will need to enter your username and password.
If you do not have a My Archive account, or would like more information, go to the My Archive Help Page.
Access full text (if available)
You can view the article full text for some citations if you have an appropriate subscription. The availability of full text will be indicated by the presence of an icon and link at the end of the citation. Click on the View article link, and the full text will open in a new window.
Navigate to other pages of results
Where there is more than one page of results, Periodicals Index Online provides a link to each page. Click a number to display the results listed on that page. Click the previous or next link to view the previous or next page of results in the sequence.
OpenURL Outbound Links
Institutions which operate an OpenURL-compatible link resolver, and which have chosen to do so, may activate outbound links to such a service from article citations in Periodicals Index Online. These links will appear as buttons or text links - the format of which is determined by the subscribing institution and their behaviour will be dependent upon the link resolver used and its configuration.
